About the CVCG

The volunteers of the Clara Vale Conservation Group manage the Clara Vale Local Nature Reserve, working in partnership with Gateshead Council to improve it for both wildlife and people.

Every resident of Clara Vale is automatically a member of the CVCG, however it is entirely at their discretion whether or not to take an active role.

The Group hold meetings in the Village Hall roughly every month to discuss progress on current and upcoming projects and management concerns.

We hold regular ‘task days’ when volunteers are invited to help with a variety of tasks or projects, including grassland management, coppicing, clearing of scrub, plant identification etc.  More detailed projects, such as fencing or structural changes as finances permit, are more likely to be carried out by contractors with assistance from Group volunteers.

At certain times we also hold events, for example bird ringing, tours of the Reserve, and bird identification. Details of upcoming events are in the blog and tagged under the ‘Events’ category.

As a not-for-profit voluntary organisation, we are always looking for funding. We are grateful of donations towards the upkeep of the reserve, the cost of bird seed, information leaflets, tools, equipment and training. If you have enjoyed our unique resource please consider a small donation.
